This body of work explores my connection to the sea. In particular the work acts as my response to the Atlantic Coast of Islay.

Initially working on a series of small encaustic paintings of a preternaturally calm Atlantic Ocean, at Machair Bay, these works then became the catalyst for the larger scale pieces. My work explores, inter alia, the transition between the sea and sky which is between infinite and indeterminate depending on the weather.

A distillation process – taking the raw energy of the environment and extracting its essence in order to translate the dialogue into paint.  The sense of light and shade, texture and colour of the environment are strong driving forces.i
