This two day workshop will take place both on location on the Cockenzie & Port Seton coastline and at the studios in Cockenzie House.
We will spend the first day on location filling concertina sketchbooks as we walk and draw the coastline and harbour. We will use a variety of media that may include collage, lo-fi print-making and a mix of drawing materials to capture the gritty essences of the working harbours and coastal paths. We will consider how we can use our materials and approaches to capture some of the more elusive qualities of the environment – i.e texture, weather, sound – really bringing our drawings to life.
On day two we will bring our haul back to the studio where we will unpack it and use the gathered drawings in it to seed larger works away from the location. We will look at ways in which the drawings and our notes and memory open up new creative possibilities in the studio – employing our methods and materials from day one in ways that preserve the excitement and freshness of the original drawings while taking them in new and surprising directions.
