Our Studios

Our Story...

Friends and founders, Jemma Derbyshire and Lynsey Connachan share a vision for creating a safe, supported environment in which their students can flourish.

We think one of the many wonderful things about Paintbox School of Art, is it’s location right by the sea on the East Lothian coastline! It is a fantastic setting for students to explore their surroundings and feel inspired every single day. The school is inside Cockenzie House, which is a beautiful historic 17th century building with surrounding walled gardens – and these are gardens right on our studio door steps, allowing us all to respond directly from nature. It really is an ideal location for creativity to thrive!

The Studios

We have two lovely bright studio spaces which are fully equipped with everything students need for classes. Students also have access to all the materials and equipment they will need throughout their time with us.

Our upstairs studio is double aspect with views to both the sea and gardens and our downstairs studio directly overlooks the main front gardens! Both studios offer an ideal working environment for students and still retain some of the original historic features of the main house.

Over the past decade

we have been able to build a strong following and are delighted to say many of our students have gone on to have great artistic success across the UK.
